  • Performance

The 2021 Ford Mustang features four different engine options, with the engines paired to different trim levels of this muscle car. The Mustang EcoBoost and EcoBoost Premium are equipped with a 2.3-liter EcoBoost Ti-VCT I-4 engine, which uses a turbocharger and direct fuel injection to produce 310 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque. Ti-VCT stands for twin independent variable camshaft timing. Ford offers a High Performance Package for this engine that boosts performance to 330 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque through the use of a larger twin-scroll turbo compressor, fresh engine calibration, and a larger radiator. Models with this engine package also feature an active exhaust with quad tips.

The 2021 Ford Mustang GT and GT Premium models feature a 5.0-liter Ti-VCT V8 gas engine. This uses port fuel direct injection to give you 460 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque. The Mustang Mach 1 and Mach 1 Premium take the same engine and give it a boost with two side heat exchangers to provide greater endurance. The engine on this model provides 480 horsepower and generates 420 pound-feet of torque as a result of its active valve performance exhaust system with revised tuning.

You'll find the most powerful engine of this great muscle car on the 2021 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500. This is a 5.2-liter Supercharged Cross-Plane Crank V8. This engine is capable of producing 760 horsepower and generating 635 pound-feet of torque.

Except for the Shelby GT500, All models of the 2021 Ford Mustang come equipped with a standard 6-speed manual transmission with an available 10-speed automatic transmission. The 5.0L V8 models feature automatic rev-matching on their manual transmissions. The standard transmissions on the Mach 1 and Mach 1 Premium are TREMEC 6-speed manual transmissions. The available 10-speed SelectShift automatic transmission features paddle shifters to give you greater control and improved responsiveness over your Mustang's performance. The 2021 Mustang Shelby GT500 uses a TREMEC 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, giving you lightning-fast shifts.

If you have a need for speed, then you have come to the right place. The 2021 Mustang will give you unparalleled acceleration no matter which trim level you choose. If you opt for the Mustang EcoBoost or EcoBoost Premium with the 2.3-liter I-4 engine, you will be able to go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in only 6.3 seconds. If you opt for the available 10-speed automatic transmission, you can cut that time down to 5.3 seconds. The same engine with the horsepower boost from the High Performance Package can take your Mustang EcoBoost from 0 to 60 in only 5.0 seconds.

The Mustang GT and GT Premium with the 5.0-liter V8 are even faster, with a time of just 4.6 seconds going from 0 to 60. As expected, the Mustang Mach 1 and Mach 1 Premium are slightly faster, going from 0 to 60 miles per hour in only 4.2 seconds. However, the champion for speed is the Mustang Shelby GT500, going from 0 to 60 in a jackrabbit 3.7 seconds.
